Hopeful Noor ready for Sailors

Geylang International coach Noor Ali insists his side will have no fear as they host defending champions Lion City Sailors for the season opener of the Singapore Premier League at Our Tampines Hub on Friday.

The Eagles lost all their three fixtures last season with the heaviest defeat being an 8-0 whipping at home in April.

Geylang managed to score only once and conceded 13 against the reigning league champions in the process.

But with the new season comes new hopes, the Eagles are eager to put all the dismal records and disappointments behind them.

There’s every reason for Geylang to be upbeat as they have powered up their squad with the arrival of Croatian hotshot Sime Zuzul from Balestier Khalsa, French midfielder Vincent Bezecourt and the Japanese duo of Takahiro Tezuka and Rio Sakuma.

All eyes will surely be on Zuzul and Bezecourt. Zuzul netted 30 times for his former club in the last three seasons while Bezecourt boosted the team with Major League Soccer and Europe League experience.

Sailors will travel to Our Tampines Hub on the back of their 3-1 win at home last Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the match, said Noor Ali: “We’re all aware of the Sailors’ strength. But we will not face them with an inferiority complex.

“I’ve told all my boys that we’re capable to win points against any side, and Sailors are no exception.”
